There has been a sharp increase in the deer population in Lancashire, leading to an increase in road accidents. Only last week a motorist in Billington swerved to avoid a deer, and hit a lamppost suffering minor injuries.
At night deer get caught in the headlights of cars, the animals natural instinct is to freeze. If you have one caught in your headlights, the best thing is to turn your headlights down to sidelights, allowing the deer to escape from the glare and run off the road to safety. Lancashire Police have reported problems on the M65, Samlesbury, Brockholes Brow and at Billington. Wild deer have also been spotted in more urban areas.
Stan’s advice is to stay alert at all times when driving, be it in a rental van or hire car – as you never know what might be around the corner.
If you need a self drive van, small, medium, large or Luton, or a car to go deer watching – give Stan a ring.
